AARCS Celebrates Its Launch: An Evening of Community, Vision, and Inspiration!
Published on October 3, 2024.
This past weekend, the Asian American Research Center at Stanford (AARCS) officially kicked off its launch with a wonderful celebration hosted at the beautiful home of Laura Ching and Eric Chen. Sponsored by AARCS, the event brought together faculty, alumni, and supporters to mark the beginning of an exciting chapter for AARCS as it embarks on its inaugural year and future initiatives for the broader Stanford community.
Guests enjoyed an evening filled with meaningful conversations, celebrating the work and vision of AARCS as it establishes itself as a key hub for advancing research, education, and community engagement around Asian American and Asian diaspora issues. Attendees were inspired by remarks from AARCS founding directors Gordon Chang, Steve Sano, and Jeanne Tsai, along with the center’s first full-time staff member, Chali Lee, as they reflected on the center’s history, mission, and future endeavors. The evening concluded beautifully with a special performance by Steve Sano playing kī hōʻalu (Hawaiian slack key guitar), leaving guests with a sense of hope and excitement for what’s to come.
We are deeply grateful to everyone who attended and helped make the event a success. A heartfelt thank you to Laura and Eric for generously hosting us, and to all our supporters for your ongoing dedication to AARCS. We’re excited to continue growing our community and working together to shape the future of Asian American scholarship and research at Stanford University!
